It's Late but

Merry Xmas, It's a bit late from most people's xmas day but still, happy wishes and all that.

I got, Kinect Sports Season 2, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Batman: Arkham City, and Saints Row the Third.

I also accquired the games Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead: Undead Nightmare and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary just before Christmas.

So I am going to be playtesting these games vigorously through the next two weeks hopefully, and get towards a decision on these games and whether they are (firstly worth your time to play, and whether or not it is a mandatory purchase)

Secondly, I will be conducting with joe, via Twitter mainly our review of the gaming year that was 2011. except cheap jokes, and well lots of references between the industry and our game of the year!!!!

Sorry about not posting here, been busy, and will be busy over the next couple weeks. Playing games, Dog Sitting, sleeping, eating, buying a new bed, tv and tv stand.

Remember folks, anything you think me and joe should look at in the gaming industry, let us know, and we'll look into it.

Also remember to show us any or all the great gaming moments

Remember to keep gaming

Regards, Mason and Joe, The Gaming Issues Team.

change of slight pace

My Perfect F1 Calendar

1. Australia. Melbourne. Albert Park, is great track
2. Malaysia. Sepang. One of the few half decent Tilke Tracks. Soon he will have over 50% of f1 tracks.
3. Bahrain. BIC. This is a good track, DRS will significantly improve this track this year.
4. China. Shanghaii. Biggest population and market of all. Track is medium-alright, but they need more fan input and attendance.

5. Turkey. Istanbul Park. Great Track, but same as china, need more fans.
6. Spain. Valencia. Get rid of Barcelona track, Its rubbish these days, that chicane eliminates drs, at the only overtake spot, and the teams know far too much about the track for it to be interesting.
7. Monaco. Really, need i say more?
8. Canada. Montreal. Gilles Villeneuve Circuit. This should never leave the calendar ever. When was the last bad Canadian GP? Go on i dare you to think right back to find one

9. Britain, Silverstone. I think I've made my point here.
10. Germany. Nurburgring. Much better track than Hockenheim.
11. Hungary. Classic Track, First to accept Formula 1 behind the iron curtain in the 80's and i think it stays for a long time yet.
12. Belgium, Spa. If Bernie gets rid of this, he needs to go, and be shot, thousands of times, brought back to life, and then shot again thousands of times.

13. Italy. Monza. I dare you bernie to get rid of this. I dare you. Just don't drop the soap in the italian jail.
14. Singapore. This isn't as bad as the track i thought it would be. It's great as an event.
15. Japan. Suzuka. Again, try and take this one away without an FOTA riot.
16. Korea. This track is brilliant. If Bernie was less about money, and more about the product this race can work.

17. India. New Dehli. This Track is awesomely fast, and quite cool. but we need the fan turnout, or just sachin tendulkar to show and it should be a sellout.
18. Brazil. Interlagos. Great track but i'd get rid of if they attack the mechanics. You can't guarantee the teams safety. No race. Period. I'd go to argentina.
19. USA. Texas Road Course. Jury's out on this one.
20. New York Street race. The one in 2013, I'm liking this one so far.
21. Abu Dhabi. The poetic juxta-position of the sun setting on the f1 season is too much for me to put it anywhere other than the season finale.

I also have no idea where you would put the russian gp, though i imagine its august time? But the russian track looks terrible to the point where you'd fancy your chances overtaking at monaco more than russia. seriously. here is the layout.http://www.flickr.com/photos/75417274@N00/5081341299/

what i would do is merge F1 and the IndyCar series. can you imagine f1 cars going around ovals? as that would almost instantly crack america. by merging the two series it would become a major challenge to the drivers, making it a more appealing to young kids all over the world.

And more importantly some of F1 biggest markets have raceable ovals.

Germany. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EuroSpeedway_Lausitz 2 Mile Tri-Oval
Britain. Rockingham. One and a half mile oval track. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockingham_Motor_Speedway This one has a unique shape.
Japan. Motegi. These fans need a second race. they make the italians look like the chinese in terms of support.
There's also this considering where Bernie wants to go http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phakisa_Freeway.

These Rumors.

These rumors about the third generation of Xbox Consoles starting leaking/being rumored from June the 14 when game developer Crytek announced two things, firstly announcing the development of Timesplitters 4 for next generation consoles, (Wii U Launches rather soon at time of publishment) (Editor's Notes: Before anyone asks, we know that new consoles are coming, but when is the question, now back to ever increasing intro)

Where was I? ah yes, Crytek not so long after Crysis 2 announced Timesplitters 4 but more importantly it confirmed, not suggest, but COMPLETLY CONFIRM the existence of Microsoft new money maker. And that it will be revealed sometime in the next year, possibly at E3 2012.

Before than, I joined a site called Trueachievements.com (Ed: think where all achievement hunters/whores gather to trade secrets and to work together to achieve them) where one of the major features of the site to me, was the ability to create your own blog. (Which essentially is a word document on a site) My first post around March and which was 3 months before the announcement was this about the next xbox. I wrote this and now I am copying the link am and going to analyse it.
http://www.trueachievements.com/gamerblog.aspx?gamerid=272643

I am going to focus purely on the features, as the main one I suggested in the blog post and resulting forum conversation, i argued for the bbc iplayer and channel 4 and 5 intergration. Now I would of loved that before to be included in the next gen Xbox, Microsoft are implenting it in just 6 days as I type this. Among other things of course.

Microsoft are implenting Youtube, Bing search, BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, LoveFilm, UFC PPV's into the Xbox 360 ever increasing range of media services available, and this is just in the United Kingdom

Now as i stated above in my previous blog post , I don't know just what Media packages Microsoft have agreed to help offer in other locales, (Admission that's lazy on my part, but i digress, even if I did research it would take longer to research what offer service Microsoft could offer in each locales that Xbox Live operates)

So far, lets assume what being added in 6 days, is to stay for good on the live service.

The entire list for the United Kindgom, right now for the next generation stands at ...

  1. Sky Player. (BSkyB are the biggest TV group in the UK, that you have to pay for) This player adds a good edge to the Xbox Live service, providing live sports, movies, drama and their prime time shows. One Service that the player does not offer, is their anytime service on their satelite box, where they allow you to catch up on any programs you may have missed recently. (perhaps this could be an upgrade for the next Xbox)
  2. BBC iplayer. (BBC are probably next biggest and are provided for by the british taxpayer) Unlike Sky, this does not include live television, but it is an exclusive catch up of all your television, this service will be a great additon to the Live service.
  3. Channel 4 On Demand, (I am not sure of the names of this and the next service, but I am fairly sure of their purpose.) On the other major digital television providers in the UK. Virgin run this service very very smoothly. It again is the same as the BBC Iplayer only Channel 4 shows. Channel 4 do not produce a lot of shows themselves, Infact I don't think as a studio, Channel 4 produce any shows. They do buy the rights to broadcast nearly all of the shows.
  4. Channel 5 On demand. Same as the previous 2.
  5. Twitter. I think this is a slightly watered down version of the site as I do not believe currently on the xbox version of Twitter you can view pictures from sites linked to like twitpic.com. In the next edition of the 360 I would like to see a full fleshed out Twitter with the ability to view all pics (barring those who have child protection on. (I'm Looking at you Hayley Williams))
  6. Facebook. We have an incredibly watered down version of this, we can update status, view status updates of other people, comment on those, and view pictures and that is it. Now I am not sure how many Serious/Hardcore/Plays More than the average guy would accept this but flesh the entire facebook experience by including possibly Xbox only versions of farm town and most of their games, allowing the devleopers to increase their coding experince by making 3d versions of text based games like Zombie Slayer, and Galaticos Football. Although I am pretty sure these mentioned games are created and developed by 3rd party companies.
  7. LoveFilm: Xbox Live already has a film rental service.Zune I believe it is called. LoveFilm is essentially the same service and a more well known service. Now I have never used the service but I have never heard a bad thing about the service. They commonly brag in their adverts about having over 30,000 films for you to rent. This will be a great addition to the Xbox Live Service. It will use Microsoft Points and if you don't have the points you cannot rent I think, I'll confirm when I get the chance to sample it.
  8. Last.fm: This Service is superb already and dosen't need anything changing. What happens is you search for a musical artist and the service streams a song of their's with accompanying pictures to enlighten the song. Then the service finds another band that has a similiar style and genre to the first artist and plays you one of their songs, before repeating with several artists. This service is great at finding new musical interests for whomever uses the service.
  9. Youtube. What I think will be intergrated into the live service is the ability to watch videos, but not much else. We won't be able to upload our own gaming videos, without one of the most commonly used methods to upload videos. For the next generation, My first point of the next list will cover this. I want to be able to upload our own videos.
This is what Microsoft already have/are implementing into the 360. What they may or may not have considered is a number of different things. I will list a few things that I would like to see tomorow when I have had proper time to research and prepare my list of things to add.

It's been a while

It's been a week since I last spoke here. Err damn you Skyrim, where has my life gone? you ask. Into creating a monster tank character in Skyrim, I had originally created him to be into two handed weaponry, but grinded out my blocking to level 100. Which coincidentally does get rather good, so I've scrapped that guy to properly create a bad-ass tank with level 100 Heavy Armour, Two Handed Weaponry, Smithing ( I want that dragon armour damn it), Alchemy, Enchanting, and Restortation Magic, as good as the armour will be I may still need healing.

The game is so addictive, I put in several hours a go into this game, and to think I was never going to get, on the suggestion of another well respected games journalist not only have I gotten this game, I went and got the predecessor Oblivion Game of the Year edition as well.

I have a few minor gripes about the game but that is exactly the point, they are so minor you cannot really complain about them, as I have said it is far too easy to level up your characters in what you want.

Take the new Tank guy I made, and Tank is his name no less.

Heavy Armour/Blocking is the same easy grind, takes a while, (doing both together might take about 5 hours) go out around the central city of Whiterun, (first big city you come to, you cannot miss it.) look around the outskirts to the north and there should be a river, (Editor's note: There are multiple places in what I am describing, but the strategy remains the same.) The river in question is near a mission you pick up from Whiterun. On this river there may be or not, but hopefully for you there should be a MudCrab.

Annoy it and it should attack you, as a low level set your healing spell up to active, and just let it continually attack you until you badly need to heal, run away slightly and heal at the same time, it may only take about 15 hits from the mudcrab to level up heavy armour. Restoration takes a while but it has been empowered, regenerating mana/magicka faster now, and at double strength/half magicka needed to cast spell. it's more effective, as you will find it harder to come by magicka naturally without potions, and if you do this for any extended period of time you will run low on potions and if it is after you become Thane of Whiterun, dragons can swoop in at any time, at any place.

Also big tip remember to save your game every ten minutes or after every time you level up. Especially if you push the boundaries of your endurance and the mudcrab unleashes it's special attack of a double attack and kills you, all your progress will be undone.

oh and do not get me started on the Dragons. sheesh.

You cannot just play skyrim, it is recommended but you really need to buy this before you kick the bucket.

Am currently working on a post about the gears of war series and why you should play them. Once I've properly done skyrim, i'll review it properly.

The Games Industry and Controversy. (Possible first part of many, Watch this space)

Notes: This post will be dealing with very delicate matters, so I advise if you are under the age of 18, please read this with an adult. Thank you.

A few years ago I was in college and my group was given an assignment to create a report and present our findings on a media project that caused major controversy. We were given a list of items or media products, (Films, Tv Shows,) Now I had originally choosen the movie, The Warriors. Classic movie I know but it hadn’t caused much controversy other than a few fights in cinema’s. Football/soccer has caused more controversy than that.

So as my project wasn’t going to be all that good and in search of a better grade, I asked the teacher whether I could switch up my project to something that was a) offensive, b) controversial, and c) something I had seen/witnessed. D) understood and e) could talk about for a period of 5 minutes. That media product was Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. I knew that in circles of people who thought it is their destiny to purify television and the media. Those three little letters would cause a major headache.

I also knew what I would talk about, and that is the “hot coffee” mod in the PC and Playstation 2 versions of the game. In the game your character Carl “CJ” Johnson could have many girlfriends and you had to take them out on dates, eventually if you impressed her enough, you would be invited in for coffee, of which every person over the age of about 17 who has been on a date understands means jackpot. Now in the normal shipped version of the game, what you are meant to see is nothing. You just see the outside of the building you just entered while your mind ran rampant at what you could hear. Heck if you left the stereo on you could listen to that while you took care of business shall we say.

I’m writing this straight from memory as I had played that game to death in the time I had it. (a thought occurred, I should still have it somewhere J) so you can see I should of went with this from the start of the project.

Anyhoo back to the point. The mod hot coffee could only be accessed through I think illegally hacking the game to unlock it. At which point you could actually see how CJ took care of business. Which sent the world mad, that minor citiziens, people under the age of 18 years, were or could be allowed to view such graphic images. I mean it wasn’t enough to make you listen to it like “Fable” which had come out a couple years before GTA and had simulated this. Heck in the eyes of the holy preachers, Fable allowed you to be homosexual should the need or urge arise, and they got away with that scot free.

But the Just and Holy got mad at GTA, and it wasn’t even Rockstar’s fault. Lets review why shall we.

A)     They hid the evidence deep in the code, and to view it, you had to hack the game on the Playstation 2. PC was much easier, just had to find it mind you.

B)      They certainly didn’t give the game it’s rating. Now I’m from the UK and this game was my 18th Birthday Present, for that reason. You had to be over the age of 18 to purchase this game, and in nearly every country in the world, you have to be over that very same age to view what most people offended by this would call this. Adult Entertainment. The problem lied in the hands of the North American or US based authority in grading and granting Certificates for media. They did not give San Andreas an 18, but made it something like a 15 rated title.

C)      Technically most people against call it one thing. I can claim to not ever have seen adult entertainment, but I know it when I see it. This certainly was not that. Infact it was more funny than hidden down the seedy backalleys of the internet. Rockstar abandoned this feature pretty early in the games development. Infact the version that everyone got on their PS2’s was pretty bad, the characters were fully clothed and although their actions would be the one thing that would annoy most upstanding citiziens, but hey, I don’t think there would be anything like teaching your kid the facts of life while mowing down civvies with a combine harvester.

One thing you can fault Rockstar for though is leaving this content in the game in the first place. I mean what did they expect. The U.S.A went into complete meltdown and fury over Janet Jackson’s nipple, being displayed for less than a second, and in that instance you had no idea what had happened. Yet the poor sods who had the public indecency to air this during the Super Bowl no less got fined millions.

Just like the super bowl incident, Rockstar should of envisioned this being a potential problem and made sure that this never saw the light of day. However I wouldn’t of gotten the top marks available for the project so…

The world is very oversensitive about even about the most insignificant of details. Take Fable like I mentioned earlier, the final decision you have to make in the game is whether to throw away a weapon of mass destruction of which kills anything with one hit, or to keep it by attacking your blind sister. This ironically went without even a murmur which dictates to me that the other forms of media, (Cough Press, Cough) have pre-mediated their target of rockstar and GTA before it even hit/hits the shops, but maybe that just creates a better press for the game increasing sales. Is that a risk that is even worth taking? Who knows.

A very recent example came from the mega-juggernaut that is Call Of Duty. Just before their most recent release, and I have already warned readers about this scene a while back in the blog about this. This information was coincidently leaked a couple of days before the launch of the game. The details released to the press involved a little girl being blown up by terrorists. Now the timing of this information leak suggests to me that they are/were trying to hype the game that one last time. Now with that in mind ask yourself this. Would you buy a game just to see a little girl get blown up? If the answer to that is yes, go to a psychiatrist immediately.

I really do not know if video games, (which is the most profitable out of all media industries) is trying to be more controversial, all I know is, that some of the bigger titles can never go without it. (Yes I am looking at you Rockstar) but what I DO KNOW is that games do not need it. Companies are perfectly capable of producing a superb game with all the war and death and merciless killing attached to it without trying to annoy anyone who will not like it.

Now keep gaming and producing moments for us to publish in all it’s glory here.
Thank you for reading. Mason Cooper out.

Madden gaming moment

Gaming Moments: Madden at the Tailgate

It was the 23rd October 2011, I was in London, England to see the NFL International Series game, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs the Chicago Bears, it was the tailgate party. The NFL had put on a big tailgate for the fans, there were merchandise stands, former players. Interactive games, cheerleaders, tons of things. One of the things they had on was a bunch of Playstation 3's with Madden on. I was with my dad who never plays video games so I saw a bunch of lads, ages 20-30, and asked them for a game.

A few games in, after beating someone in the last second of regulation with a 50 yard Wes Welker touchdown pass, we were all having fun, lots of banter haha. I came up against this guy, I was the Patriots he was the Cowboys, 4 minute quarters. I absolutely dominated the first half, and by the third quarter I was 47-26 up. I was almost dancing around the place I was dominating. But, this guy can do onside kicks! He gets 3 onside kicks in a row! Converts them all into touchdowns! Remember this is 4 minute quarters! The score is 47-46, and to be interesting (and idiotic in my mind) he goes for the 2 points and the win in regulation. While we were all shouting and balling during this game quite a crowd had gathered! So in the final play of the game, we both stand up for the play, he runs it up the middle, Jerod Mayo makes the stop and the Patriots win 47-46! I was pumped for that victory!

It was the icing on the cake to a great tailgate, I met some awesome people and had a great time! If you are an NFL fan (especially in the UK) and havent been to a tailgate, go! You'll have so much fun! And play Madden if you somehow haven't too!

Thanks, I hope you enjoyed this post, I'd love your feedback and hear your favourite moments playing Madden!

48 hours with Skyrim. My pre-full length review notes.

I got this on the recommendation of deputy editor of Offical Xbox Magazine, Mike Channel, who can be found here http://twitter.com/#!/MikeChannell. He said that the first spell I would got be like a flamethrower, and to enjoy. So far, that sentence is so true it is unbelievable.

The first dragon you encounter is incredible and humongous, and by god I legged it. To be fair, I was about to be executed for reason I still do not understand. However I still legged it, despite being bound in my hands.

Other than the rather worrying start to the game so far I have found it enthralling, something that mister Channell did say about the game.

Even before the game I was amazed by the game of Skyrim, and I rarely play rpg's as they have never appealed to me, but on OXM Channel suggestion, even on opening the case, the map that comes with the game is amazing, feeling like a map from a couple hundred years ago, and looks amazing, my little sister have been warned that if they ruin it, they can go and buy me a new copy of the game.

Back to the game, and the sheer number of different races to play as straight away is quite staggering, it seems like there at least ten different races to play as, quite the selection straight up. The sheer size of Skyrim is staggering, I think I have explored about 10 percent of Skyrim in about 10-11 hours of gameplay.

There is a single minor fault me and a few mates have found with this game so far. That is it is far too easy to rank skills up like smithing and blocking as the same things level it up no matter whether for example you are level 1 or 71 in smithing, creating the same item gives you the same amount of points, or experince or whatever it is called in the game, which means it is far too easy to level those skills up. I levelled up my smithing skill about 7 levels last night when I noticed I had a megaton of leather and used it to create an iron dagger, levelling up rapidily. (iirc it took me making 3 iron daggers to level up)

Same goes for blocking for example, as taking on a simple enemy like a wolf for instance, just using a simple shield will stop most of the attacks you can face from a non-sword wielding enemy, and it is far too easy to just sit there and level up your blocking.

Back to the main focus of this game, the dragons. Bethesda have made them into such eloquent and magnificent beasts, while increasing the fear factor when you battle them, the first and only dragon battle I have encountered so far, started with me being personally BBQ's by said dragon. Then I went downstairs to find it, and luckily it came to me, and my double handed greatsword, which prompty went downtown on it, hacking at it furiously, until it fell down.

This game is incredible, so worth much more than one play in your lifetime.

Once I completed the game and had about 30 more hours to compile a worthy review like most sites and blogs on the web, I shall give you a full rundown.

Keep gaming and producing moments to be proudly displayed on this blog/site.

Early thoughts on Modern Warfare 3

I haven't completed the single player. but I am enjoying it so far. It will not be to everyone's tastes, but it is still a good game. If you like the previous 5 call of duty games, you will like this one.

Mulitplayer has some major issues, parties of more than 2 in multi player have major issues in connecting to games, taking minutes in some cases. Battles seem to be decided by blind luck, as damage seems to be random, as per se sniper rifles are overpowered. example being I came up from a guy left hand side and started shooting him, he had sniper rifle turned, (while being shot) and hip fired, and killed me.

I'd give it a 8 solid effort, fantastic in places, but same old cod where you need ninja reflexes and ninja esque eyes to scan the entire viewpoint of character and the heat map to know where enemies are.

I'd prefer Battlefield 3 to this, but that's just me.

Spoiler Alert

The single player is incredibly ott in one of the first missions Soap somehow recovers miracously from a massive stab wound to the chest, to suddenly be fine and dandy, really iw, activision???

Good game, it is defintely worth the time to play at least once in your lifetime.

I'll write a full review when I have had the chance to try everything in this game, and that may be a while, my mother brought home a gorgeous tiny female puppy, pre-occupied making sure she dosen't shit on the rug and annoy the older male dog frodo.

Anyhoo back to business and the cover for MW3 is one of the most uninspiring covers i have seen in a long time, but that is just me. Also it the single player has made me wonder, just how big do the makers think the Russian armed forces are??? It's one thing what they did in MW2, but what these guys have so far gotten up to takes the holy piss out of it.

Gaming Moments: My First Superbowl

Superbowl  Post.

My Gaming moment was created on the original Xbox console, and was played on the game ESPN NFL 2k5, made by the guys at 2k sports. The game was obviously a Superbowl, I believe it was Super Bowl 40, and the game was played out by the Philadelphia Eagles and the Indianapolis Colts. Now with the rosters at that time, the main story of this match up if the game were real would be the inclusion on the Eagles squad of Wide Receiver Marvin Harrison. Legend for the Colts.

How this came about was the season before I traded #88 to the Cardinals for Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. I thought that was a fair trade. Weirdly I remember that season the Eagles had put Corey Simon up on the trade block and for some strange reason the Cardinals traded Harrison.

Anyhow, I was happy with the wide outs I had, and advanced to the super bowl on the back of great defending and a solid offense.

To the Super Bowl we went and I was confident, nervous, (it was my first Super Bowl) match up. I won the coin toss and elected to receive the second half kickoff, had been winning when receiving the ball to start the second half and I was more confident in my defence over my offense.

So the Eagles start the game after a touchback and go swiftly back to the sidelines after a three and out. I run Edgerrin James into the ground on the first drive with 7 runs for 42 yards and the opening score coming from Manning to Boldin down on the goalline on an out route.

A kick after and it was 7 nil and my confidence e is soaring. The Eagles are facing a third down and ten. And now the nightmare begins. Donovan McNabb drops back and looks deep to Terrell Owens,  fakes the throw and goes deep down the other side to Marvin Harrison. My defender, Nick Harper misses the Interception and Harrison goes for the game tying touchdown. 7-7

I get the kickoff and I make the defender miss, I. Could. Go. All. The. Way. But there’s a defender and forces a fumble, and I can’t pick it up and the Eagles pick it up at their 8 yard line. Harrison beats Harper at the line of scrimmage and makes the catch and runs past the safety on his way to a second touchdown.  14-7
I then start my next drive at my twenty yard line and ran it 3 times picking up two first downs, and then threw an interception, of which the defender stepped out of bounds at his 48 yard line. McNabb starts tearing my defense apart picking up first downs at will, hitting T.O and Harrison at will. McNabb makes it 21-7 hitting T.O for a 7 yard TD.

With Two minutes to go in the first half I threw my third interception and it was returned for a touchdown to make it 28-7.

After messing up the kickoff return, I had 1:38 minutes to go and 94 yards to travel. I went to my go to play hitting Larry Fitzgerald for all 94 yards on 8 catches to pull back to 28-14 at the half.
I decided on a change of gameplan for the second half deciding to go throw, run, pass, run, and wouldn’t change this unless I had to, like throw on 3rd and 14 for example.

Grabbed a first down with the first throw to Reggie Wayne, and then Edge picked up 8 yards following a stiff arm. Back to Reggie who picked up another 15 yards, and then Edgerrin James again picked up good yardage on 1st down. Went to the other side for my pass to Anquan Boldin who picked up 12 yards and a first, and then Edge then picked up a first down with 11 yards. I then hit Reggie Wayne for the Touchdown. 28-21 and right back into it.

First play of the second half for the Eagles is an INTERCEPTION. Nick Harper you beast, tackled immediately but boom. Now I am at their 25 yard line and looking good to tie it. Only I didn’t. 3 and out, but Mike Vanderjagt, Sorry I nailed the 42 yard Field Goal to pull within 4 points.

McNabb goes crazy now throwing ten straight times down the field, picking up tons of yardage and eventually hits up Marvin Harrison for his 3rd Touchdown leading to a 35-24 scoreline. With about 7 minutes to go it looks bleak, but this story is far from over.

I get the ball back and get 32 yards on back to back runs, and call a pass at the right time, as the Eagles send 8 men on a blitz and I just get the ball off to Reggie Wayne getting the ball to the Eagles 18 yard line. Edgerrin James scores on the next play to turn it into a 35-31 ball game.

McNabb starts another drive and with 4 minutes left gets sacked for the first time, Dwight Freeney finally shows up with a monster sack forcing a huge third down. Next play Mike Doss, you beauty, INT baby. Edge gashes them for 21 yards on three runs to take me to the 35 yard line. I hit Reggie Wayne for his 14th catch of the game to take me to the 8 yard line as we hit the two minute warning. Edge runs down to the two yard line as the eagles take a timeout. With 1:54 remaining in the game edge takes it to the outside stiff arm, TOUCHDOWN I GOTTT THE LEAD BABY WOOOOOOO! Extra point and it’s a 38-35 ball game, but wait, there’s more.

McNabb is now rightly pissed, and starts tearing the defense apart. Again, down a field goal and moves to 50 yard line. Freeney gets a sack, and then McNabb converts a 3rd and 18 to Owens. One Minute to go, 38 yard line. McNabb calls his own number and gains 15 yards on a scramble, 20 yard line. Calls timeout. Marvin Harrison makes a grab on the ten yard line and gets tackled on the 8 yard line. 40 seconds to play. McNabb drops back, fires looking for Owens and, (hang on is that free agent pickup Andre Dyson jumping the route) Shit it is. INTERCEPTION, and he’s off, HE. COULD. EFFING. GO. ALL. THE. WAY, 50, 40, 30, 25, 20, 15, 10, 5 GET IN TOUCHDOWN. (CAPS are what I said at time, just edited so it’s broadcastable) TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 45-35 Colts. 21 seconds to go.

McNabb soldiers on and gets his team to the 21 yard line with ten seconds and a timeout left. I just send the entire defence at him and get the sack. Timeout taken. 5 seconds to go. They’re obviously going for it. So I send the entire defense again, and Dwight Freeney ends the superbowl with a hattrick of sacks.
Reggie Wayne gets the mvp award with 14 catches, 200+ yards, and a Touchdown.
This game was played in about 2005-2006. I cannot remember the exact date, but I will always remember this game. This is just one of the moments that make computer games so great, and these moments is why I enjoy playing the games. If you have a moment that is funny, or a great comeback or just a great hoorah moment, then let me know and I will invite you to write it up and publish it on here.

Spoiler warning for Modern Warfare 3

Ok, who isn't getting the same game for an 6 year in row, just me?

Spoiler alert!!!!!!!! for those of easily offendable taste, dont read on.

ok in all seriousness, I am sure many of you remember The "No Russian" level in Modern Warfare 2. For those who don't know and this is a spolier although you can skip it, your character was undercover as a terrorist and to maintain cover you had to participate in an attack on an airport, slaughtering innocent russian civilians. Although you didnt have to fire it must be said.

There is a scene of similar distaste although this one is much more gut wrenching as a) it is a cutscene and b) once you have started this cutscene, there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop this.

The scene will start with you character in the level shouting where are the trucks.

I believe that this is a level ending scene, and it is set in London. You jump to a family of three americans and view through the video camera the father is using, recording his daughter's delight as they approach Big Ben, about two blocks away.

MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR EFFING SPOILERS.

A Home removal truck will appear and blow the little girl and her mother up before releasing a cloud of toxic gas.

I feel this is a touchy subject, but having seen it, Inifity Ward have dealt with it well, making the kids death very quick. But for those who wouldn't know what exactly is coming in mw3, it will cause some feelings gamers never realised they had.

you have all been warned!!

I will be comparing this to the controversial scene from modern warfare 2 on Tuesday when I have had time to emotionally get into the game and see how it effects me.

Games to Play Before You Die: Heavy Rain

Games to Play Before You Die: Heavy Rain.
By Joe Feery.

Heavy Rain is a Playstation 3 exclusive title, released in February 2010. It follows the story of 4 characters, Ethan Mars, Scott Shelby, Norman Jayden and Madison Paige as they all try to solve the case of the Origami Killer. The Origami Killer is a Serial Killer who abducts children, and after 6 inches of rainfall, will be found dead, drowned. Ethan Mars is the latest father to have his child abducted. He is given challenges by the Origami Killer to complete, to prove he is willing to make sacrifices to save his son. Scott Shelby is a retired policeman now working as a Private Investigator, trying to solve the case. Norman Jayden works for the FBI and has been specially drafted in to help solve the case. Madison Paige is a Journalist whose path crosses with Ethan, and she eventually conducts her own investigations.

It won 2010's Game of the Year from CNN and Gaming Union. Heavy Rain also won Gamespy and IGN's "Best PS3 Game of 2010"

The game is very advanced for its time. It uses state of the art graphics technology, Facial recognition technology has been used for the characters, so the characters are actors that have been hired to play the roles. The game also uses motion capture technology, so the actors are almost making a film.

The Campaign itself is very short, which could be an advantage for casual gamers, like myself. One of the things Heavy Rain may do is make you want to play it over and over again. There are many ways the storyline can go, there are several minor and major moments that can affect the outcome of the story. This isn't a game where you fail for making a bad move, failing is part of the storyline.

A very "cool" feature of the game is that you can see your characters thoughts, and if you press a specified button you can hear your character explain why they are thinking about that in full. For Example, if it says "anxious", your character will explain why they are anxious.

Heavy Rain's storyline is what makes this game for me. It is so simple, a fathers love for his son, yet I was so gripped. I legitimately wanted to succeed for Ethan, not many games make me feel like that. I didn't want the game to end, and I played through the game several times to get the best possible ending and the worst possible ending, and I genuinely felt bad when I got the bad ending.

The Achievements/trophies are quite easy to come by, a lot of them you will get by simply playing the game. Getting 100% is hard though as some trophies will take a long time and patience to complete.

If you have a Playstation 3 and somehow haven't played this game, buy it now! It's probably going to be in the bargain bucket of your local gaming store by now, for no more than £15. If you haven't got a PS3, I'd suggest finding out which of your friends have a PS3 and suddenly become best friends with them until they invite you to their house where you can play it haha.

This is one of my favourite games of all time, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. If you do get it because of this blog, Let me know! I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks Guys, please leave your feedback, I hope you enjoyed me first post.

GTA V!!!!!!!!!!!

GTA V (or five to non-gamers or roman literate people) has been offically announced. The mass excitement that one sentence, and believe me, it is one sentence, saying yes the game that you have expected to be announced is being announced, and the first trailer is next week. Wednesday around 6pm British Time. The excitement it has created is unparalleled to me.

And I mean this, some much speculation when the developer dosent give you anything is a good thing right. The main source of all the discussion mainly is where this new game will be set. The one thing that RockStar North have done well over the year is creating new areas for you to murder, shoot, and blow the fuck out of.

They have always done amazing cities. Liberty City which they recently returned to after around 8 years, and transformed it into an amazing replica of New York City of which it is based. Taking its name from a famous statue.

Originally apearing very early in the series, Liberty City has been a stand out design from rockstar. It was the first city i had the pleasure of tearing a new one for. 10 Years ago as an impressionable 13 year old boy, this was one of the games that helped turn me into the man/gamer i am today. Coming out originally on the Playstation 2, it later released on Microsoft's new console the Xbox. A theme that is going to be later repeated with later titles as you will see.

This was also Rockstar's first foray into a 3d world. Each previous entry in this series was from a top down view in a 2d world.

The next city of rockstar's choosing to recreate was the city of Miami. Yes the South Florida city may not have had the same name, but this is a lot of people's favourite game of all time. Especially the series. Set during a musically superior decade of the 1980's, the game not only had a fantastic radio soundtrack, but looked amazing, with great looking characters, in terms of fashion, the cars were superb, and the city looked great. Taking it's name from a successful Miami based Police Tv Show. Vice City was every bit of enjoyment millions of us had from playing it.

Now Vice City is a little bit like Liberty City in its fact that the few islands that make up the city, are very urban based with little country side based land. Not sure you can class the golf club as non-urban. I'm not entirely sure the guys and gals at rockstar would not want to repeat this theme of a city, straight after Liberty City, (especially with the upgrades to technical and graphical power these days) it could work, but with nods towards titles like Call Of Duty, some gamers are becoming more aware of the same stuff appearing in game series.

A reason for Vice City to make an appearance is that Rockstar North wanted to put a fair bit of countryside into Liberty City in Grand Theft Auto IV, but declined to and worked really hard on the city element. And boy did it pay off. Now remember a few lines above I told you that Vice City had a distinct lack of country side in the original game based there, this could be an good reason for them.

The Last new entry in the GTA Series was in 2003/04 and took us from the East Coast of the U.S.A to the West Coast. Instead of one city, Rockstar gave us 3, and massive amounts of countryside to fill in the time.  Set around California, we were given Los Santos, (Los Angeles) San Fierro, (San Francisco) and Las Venturras ( Vegas baby) and each city had its own part of country side to enhance each island/city. The Vegas island had a more desert theme, San Fran had its own mountain in it, and LA had more little villages and scenic routes for you to drive through.

Now if for reason stated above, rockstar wanted to concentrate on the city aspect for gta iv, this might turn them off. Some Gamers criticized the size of San Andreas, saying it was too big to find everything in it. I loved it Personally, and still have the previous generation of games in this series to this day.

Again if they want to allow themselves a massive area, Can you imagine three Liberty City style city with the level of detail they showed in iv. I cannot, think it would be too much detail to do.

One area of massive contention though is one city in particular from San Andreas, Los Santos. You see, rockstar's last game was called L.A Noire, and required them to scan pretty much the entire city so they could recreate 1940's Los Angeles. Meaning they had/have an entire city for them to mess around with, or even recreate los santos into. (I still remember that city off by heart from the old game) now with an already scanned city, there's still a lot of work, and would they venture into a real world setting, (remember LA may not like the way it could portrayed by Rockstar)

If i was a betting man, i would say the last option seems the front runner. Now if it were up to me i would go for a vice city game, while having half my staff working on a san andreas map to see if it were possible. that is just me though.

Either way, or option, this debate shall rage through the night and coming days till all is revealed come wednesday evening.

Keep Gaming and producing moments of grand awesomeness they shall reign on this blog.

Regards Mason Cooper 42.

Notes: There will be a new writer joining the blog, Joe Feery. He is currently on a piece for Heavy Rain and why you should play it, so look forward to that.

Been a while

since i last posted on here, been a bit busy with several games.

After Gears, Fifa 12, and F1 2011, i brought, forza motorsport 4 on its release day. amazingly i have only played it once. so far i think the achievement list is fairly easy. i have accquired 17 of them in a couple hours, leaving 31 to go.

they seemed to have improved it, and while he wont always be to everyone's taste, Jeremy Clarkson adds great depth and passion to the opening movie to this game and adds some great commentary in autovista mode, which i dont think adds that great a deal to the game. yes the cars are pretty to look at and you can explore them, but it would be easier to find these out on the internet, and to be honest, clarkson and co at top gear do just a good job of listing everything on supercars before handing it over to the stig.

speaking of top gear, the track is much different to what i remember, i never realised it was a figure of 8, online races could be carnage if you can get a team mate to block and potentially take someone out as the two tracks cross over, and said point is pretty quick going in both directions.

good list of tracks, varying from real, (Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Laguna Seca, Mugello, Suzuka, Nurburgring, Silverstone) to some classic forza 3 tracks, iberia, is the only one i can remember of the top of my head. One of their featured tracks is the Bernesse Alps, which can only be described, as an increible job by turn 10.

In good racing cars, the kind that you would see at le mans, and the track is incridibly quick and challenging at the same time. not to mention stunning to look at. Graphically the game is amazing, plays well, with or without the aids.

the top gear events so far i have encountered have only been the car bowling, which has fun. oh and not to mention there is top gear fabled car football. i am looking forward to that whenever i get around to playing it.

Now some of the achievements in the game look like they are going to take ages, and i need to find out just what the hell is a unicorn car.

It is being added to my list of games you need to play before you die. Turn 10 deserve that much of your time.

i have been playing a lot of fifa 12 recently, with my pro club Soup a Star5.

somehow last year, this team would be 50-50 in terms of results. this year we have been getting the results and we are top 1000 material. we just need to keep this form out.

scoring goals isn't our problem, its keeping the oppo out of my goal, as im the goalie. im getting better but, i still could do with a couple of defenders to help me out back there.

Thats all for now, keep gaming and producing moments and games to keep me talking.

regards, Mason Cooper

Watching Madden or real life.

I am Currently watching the Sunday Night Football game between the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Jets.

Not quite half time yet, i am watching a saved recording of the game on my sky box.

The two defences are dominating, and its kinda reminding of the days where you have someone who has never played a madden game before, and you are a 500 game veteran. Seriously, the newbie would be controlling the Jets, two defensive tds, a kick return for them, i would be allowing them to keep them playing, but there have been lots of great defensive play from both sides tonight. unbelievably this is still a game with 2:!4 left in the first half.

weird, just reminds me of that gaming situation.

Gears of War 3

Ok, so I have brought a couple of games recently, Gears Of War 3, Formula 1 2011, and CSI: Hard Evidence.

Lets start with Gears 3. I remember reading in a magazine that the chances of Epic (the game developers) messing this game up were slim to none. Spot on, about 3 years to develop this, plenty of time to decide where they want to go with the story, which is important to me, but not to much to other gamers. Remember that originally with Gears Of War 1, Epic were taking a big risk, as all game developers take with all triple aaa titles. There is no guarantee that the game will sell well. Therefore in my eyes the story has to be...

a) intriguing, the game has to stand out, especially in the shooter genre, with is fairly saturated with some rather decent titles. with the three big franchises of Halo, Cod, Battlefield, already being established with some great sale figures out there. granted CoD and Battlefield were at this time big sellers on the Personal Computer market, and still are to this day. Halo was huge on the original Xbox console, with Halo two racking up loads and loads of money for Bungie and Microsoft. Gears of War originally felt a little like Halo, in its format of human against a species of which are different and trying to kill the humans.

Another Unique Selling Point was the use of the cover throughout the game, and Cliff Bleszinski really emphasises this point a lot, placing a small speech about it in the first page of the instruction manual. What this system actually achieved, i think, was a (well it wasn't really brand new) but the use of the local enviroment in a battlefield as cover felt brand new to me. The cover system here felt smoother, and well developed, not a lot of games have adopted a good cover system over the 5 years since this release, but it did introduce a new element to online multiplayer, with lots of guys who like to stay in the same spot, looking for that perfect spot with good cover. Before Gears of War, I probably would of gone straight into the battlefield and probably of gotten my arse kicked. To be fair, I still do, if I dont play smart.

In fact since this game was released, i have seen cover based systems pop up all over the place, and infact games like battlefield have developed graphic engines where you can destroy cover.

b) the story has to be important, as originally, that is one of the selling points on the back of the games casing. Firstly it would have to be a story that appeals to the audience you are gunning for (i think that was bad for a pun but whatever) otherwise they wont buy it. I mean if Epic had made a game almost essentially the same as halo, not a lot of people would of brought this game, as they would essentially stick with halo and not make the mistake of wasting £45 on another game essentially the same.

The story was quite similar to halo with some themes like the survival of the human race, (mass effect series, halo, gears of war, among other game series all encompass this theme of fighting for the future of the human race as a main theme. But there was a significant story to it, that felt different enough that it helped in my own opinion.

But the main unqiue selling point of this game was the chainsaw with a gun attached in the lancer assault rifle, not only does it look the dogs bollocks, but it was one of the most reliable guns in any gaming series. good firing rate, great accuracy, good damage, the trifecta of what makes a good gun.

I essentailly think you need to have this game. It is one of the better games of all time. To be honest, this series would have to be to hit the $1 Billion in game sales.

As a rating, it gets a full 10 out of 10. Superb.

Other Gaming Tidbits.

Playing Gears of War 3 online with a couple of friends in the actual multiplayer, not co-operative campaign. playing on a map called Mercy, in team deathmatch. (read first to twenty kills win) and so me and my mate Hirad85, held down one of the two major points on the map. One is the elevated platform with heavy weapons, But it is open, to flanking, and fire from all over the map. The opposition had not only won the first round, but had this location on lockdown, and the other three teammates were being destroyed. Me and Hirad had the church locked down, with me covering both entrances to the church. Hirad taking control of the        Boomshot (grenade launcher).

So a round down, (with two rounds equalling a victory) and with three teammates being destroyed, and our respawns depleting fast. 3 minutes left to hole out. or 7 kills to take the victory.

Two people come in, one boomshot, and shotgun shell later and both are eliminated, leaving every player remaining in the game,  just one life remaining each. and the only advantage we have is the boomshot, of which we have one shot left for, before it respawns just two more shots. The other team have every other weapon on the map available, including smoke grenades, and killer grenades, and  two entrances leaving a flanking maneuver or even a flushing out maneuver as me and Hirad discussed.

One more moron (and i use that term loosely as he came in on his own) comes and goes without too much fuss. I go to cover the Left Hand entrance. Hirad moves up on the right hand entrance and opens fire taking out number 4. taking us from a 2 on 1 handicapped match, to a straight up fist fight, up close and personal on this game means there is every chance of getting a one shot kill.

We see the other team starting to disjoint, and seperate ever so slightly, Hirad (after recollecting his boomshot ammunition) fires and with about 1:15 left in the game, takes out a third man leaving two left. (I was covering and providing intelligence to my team mate. The other teams star performer, is we think/thought collecting ammunition, as his sole remaining team mate comes in and is dispatched with our final boomshot. 45 seconds and counting.

We both leave the safety of the church to take the fight to and hopefully at the time end this fight. we head towards the platform but our opponent is not there. we spot him with about 8 seconds ago, and open fire downing him with two seconds to go, and my only kill of the round, :) comes about a quarter of a second from time, winning the round, and to just take it to a deciding round. We win that next round 20-3. needing just two kills to win, they essentially lost the match 27-3.

This is exactly what a good game does, whether playing with friends, or against your enemies, the pace at which my heart was beating throughout that 5 minute stretch in round 2 was unbelivable, and the satisifaction of the result, was fantastic.

This is just one small mode of the entire multiplayer of  Gears 3. the pace may have felt quicker throughout the majority of the gameplay. which is one major worry i had for this game, is that the multiplayer would lose the tactial battles, which gears of war 2 fantastically created, in one such mode guardian, you could essentially create a mini fortress to protect a leader, the pace of modes like this was much slower and had a tactial element to it, do you rush the leader, knowing there will defintely be a grenade or two tagged, resulting in a lot of pain for you, but at least will create an opportunity for your teammates to attack. Do you sit back, and protect your leader, adding extra firepower to the defensive fortifications your leader may have already set up. or you sit in the middle of the map and stop opposing forces from getting close to your leader, remembering that they could respawn nearer to your leader than where you killed them.

Another big game release came up last friday, Fifa 12, i havent quite picked that game up yet, intend to, although next week on the 14th, Forza Motorsport 4 comes out, which one do i go for?? hmmm, not to mention 11 days later Battlefield 3 comes out, whats a gamer to do???

Regards to all my readers, keep gaming and producing moments like the one stated above, email me or contact me at twitter, i have had to completely change my email and twitter accounts as my email was compromised and that leaves me unable to check emails, resend password details, etcetc.

Cash Strapped.

Are you cash strapped? Then you may feel depressed if you also a gamer reading this.

Do you long for gears of war 3, forza motorsport 4, cod modern warfare 3, saints row the third, fifa 12, f1 2011, halo combat evolved anniversary, mass effect 3, deus ex human revolution, skyrim?

got a job??? No damn, why cant game companies spread these titles out over a 12 month period instead of going for xmas? okay some of these games have come well early, but 5 of those games i listed all come out within a month of each other #skint

I mean titles like Call of Duty, and Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, (which come out on the 8th and 11th November respectively) could get away with it as they are really big names. but i mean forza motorsport 4 is a big game for the xbox 360, but with just a week or so after the two previous games mentioned, (that are going to sell the old metric fcukton of games, guaranteed) consumers are going to be strapped for cash, especially are microsoft are going to be launching a brand new accessory for the 360 in their new wireless wheel, which looks rather special btw.

The problem with some many big name titles in such a little time, is the casual gamer, that dosent game often. They may only buy one or two titles a year, and as such, are going to go for the best titles available, and in the UK, that generally means people are going to go for a soccer game, (Fifa) and are going to go for a major title, like a cod, gears of war, or halo.

Which leaves the serious gamer, like you and me, who probably isnt going to go out till new years eve, to save up as much money as is humanly possible to get all of these games.

which is probably where you go.

"MUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM??????? i been a really good boy this year....."

"Shut Up Son, your a grown man, buy your own shit."

oh and in October you can throw in the big battle of Battlefield 3 to the mix as well.
May the battle for your hard earned xmas cash starts now, or has started already.
Hopefully this should mean we get more excellent games to play throughout the holliday period.

Keep Gaming, Or saving up in some cases.

About me

My name is Mason Cooper, I'm 23, from the United Kingdom, and I am an avid gamer. i also love sports, and quite a few comedy tv shows.

I follow with a passion, the Indianapolis Colts NFL team, and in soccer, I follow the mighty Leeds United, and have since I was a lad.

I love watching sports as it is for the most part, unwritten, you do know what you are going to get. a few days before i make this post. my nfl team the Indianapolis Colts, played a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now without Star Man Peyton Manning, we had lost both previous games, and hadnt looked like winning. So much infact i had picked against the colts for this game expecting the steelers to walk all over us. The colts defence played with such pride, skill, determination, that they single handedly kept the colts in the game, all game, losing right at the end by 3 points.

I remember my first gaming console being a super nintendo, with the good old cartridges instead of discs. i remember having one of the super marios, i know this was 1993 at the earliest.

In 1994 my grandmother brought me a Sega MegaDrive for my 6th birthday and i havent looked back since. playing games as much as i probably could get in the day.

Through my years with my Nintendo 64, Playstation1, Playstaton 2, Xbox and Xbox 360, and countless weeks worth of hours logged racking up kills, skills, wins, losses and deaths,

I joined Xbox Live in 2009 with my current gamertag MasonCooper42, and have currently racked up over 34000 gamerscore.

I enjoy shooters, but i like to think im better than i really am, but when i am playing well, beware.
I also play a lot of sports game, and am not shabby at some of those too.

Keep Gaming and providing many subjects for me to tackle throughout the gaming industry.

First Post

My name is Mason Cooper, and I play rather too much of computer games, seriously i cannot get enough of them. I play on the Xbox 360,  and i have acquired a lot of them over the previous 15 years of gaming. i have seen major changes in the industry, from the use of graphics, to the point where they can make your jaw drop, from financial strategies from Microsoft and ea to get more of your money, to the use of the internet to enhance your gaming experience.

In the near future, while I sort out the layout and potentially the name, among other things relating to this blog, I will be tackling the major issues facing gamers, and tactics used by the companies leading the industry to improve their games. You may also find the odd game review in here as well.

My Gamertag on Xbox Live is MasonCooper42, contact me if you want to organise a match in the future.

So until I sort this blog out visually, (you might not notice a difference) this will be all for now. So for now i must direct you to my twitter account/feed, whatever you want to call it. @MasonCooper42

Regards for reading, and keep gaming, shooting, tackling, winning, flag capturing, cursing, fragging, pwning, and arguing about issues that keeps the gaming industry and this blog among other things red-hot!
